Lightwise: Schneider Electric Energy Education Project (SEEE)
Client: Schneider Electric's Customers | UVic Student Group #8 | Victoria, BC
Some context:

Schneider Electric is a leading global industrial technology company that offers products and services for energy and process technologies. They specialize in automation, electrification, and digitalization.

For this project, I collaborated with two other students as a group to come up with a solution for the problem statement that was presented to us:

"How can Schneider Electric create hardware and software products that do more to educate users in how to do Energy Management and find savings opportunities to drive energy reduction and sustainable energy use."

As such, we prototyped "Lightwise" using Figma, an app that analyzes smart meter data to help users reduce energy consumption with personalized energy-saving tips and encourages charitable contributions through Schneider Electric's point system.

I designed the icon and logo of our app:
This was our first iteration of user interface mocked up:

Every week for the duration of four months, we had lectures conducted by Schneider Electric industry professionals who taught us more about different topics such as, project management, frontend development, and AI tools.
As such, I learned to use Figma during the UI/UX lecture to the point where I managed to build the entire user interface into a working prototype.

Final iteration of our prototype built in Figma:

Here's a demo of the app interface:
How Our Solution Meets the Criteria:

- User-friendly: the user interface is simple, clear, and visually appealing

- Educational: there are clear "tasks" that provide personalized and general energy-saving recommendations; the short-term tasks form energy-saving habits and long-term tasks educate users on progressive changes in their energy footprint.

- Innovative: users are incentivized to save energy without monetary prizes, and suggests the most up-to-date energy efficient strategies in the tasks with potential for AI enhancements.

App Development and Deployment Details:

- Installation and Maintenance: using current technologies and provides a long lasting partnership with Schneider Electric's charities.

- Personnel: the app would require a small team of developers in the Victoria area to develop and launch it officially.

- Environmental Consideration: this seems like a sustainable model in both short-term and long-term as of now.

- Time Frame: ideally the development phase would take 4-7 months and then it would take up to 12 months for user-testing including installation.

- Cost: approximately $20,000 - $30,000 initially, then for maintenance it would be closer to $4,000 - $6,000 per year.

IN SUMMARY

- Lightwise is an app with tasks that encourage better energy-saving habits in both the short and long term.

- It motivates users to be aware through streaks, charity partnerships, and achievements.

- All the features are user-friendly.

- The suggested tasks are personalized through gamification and there is room for AI implementation in the future.
